Once upon a time time had no meaning…
and no one knows why or how it came to happen…
yet it moved onward and ever on…
through the days and nights to only God knew where…
and still it moved without sound…
Once upon a time, a man opened his eyes and truly saw,
stepped through the door to a life not fully imagined,
not once looking back… always now, tomorrow and next year…
yet still remembering the beginning and the before…
and the only sound to be heard… a single heartbeat…
Once upon a time time stood waiting…
now I drink coffee on Saturday morning, in bed…
quiet time but for a brief moment, before the day begins,
and sometimes, sometimes I will roll back over,
smiling and know that…
Once upon a time is now forever…
An anniversary poem for my wife.

Oh, you had me at "once."
How wonderful!!
My husband and I just celebrated 21 years on Nov 29th. Hard to believe.
I was obviously only 8 when I married him ;)
Happy Anniversary!
That's so pretty. Your wife must have been very moved. A man who writes poetry for his wife... I thought they only existed in movies...
i think sometimes she wished i only lived in movies too… but thankfully for both of us, that's not very often…
Fascinating and unique style. Great idea. My kids have left balloons floating around the house and they appear out of no where in the dark. Great poem about your wife. Very sweet.
I think is a fantastic poem. A new surprising facet of you...
somehow i can see the poet in you in many of your beautiful illustrations.
great poem and gosh, the eyes of the balloons looks so naughty and scary.
