Illustration Friday - Robot

Watercolor and colored pencil and a little color help from Photoshop.

Hello to everyone who is still there with me. Thanks for hangin in there. I picked up some kind of nasty bug and was in bed for almost a week. And then had to play catch up. Hope everyone had a great Easter. Or just a little rest.

Nice to hear you're better, nasty things are out there. This robot cat is a mean one. Love the colouring and the big shadow on the wall. There might be some problems with those tiny wheels, if going to the litter box ;-))) Oh, and thanks for the helmet joke, made me almost fall off my chair.

katili & amy thanks for the kind words… and kaltili, glad i got you laughing… i hadn't thought about the wheels… i'm not really a cat person… hence the shadowy figure… it just seemed like the illustration that needeed to be done…

The detail and color in this piece is so fine, your catbot and mousebot I think are in for some very bad shawdowbot moments, but they seem oblious. Great stuff!

WOW, amazing illo, love the scratchy feel to it, cool texture! The cat is awesome and I just loved the colors! I'm glad you posted on my blog...thanks! I wouldn't have found your blog if not...you do great stuff, I'll be visiting often :-)

Oh, and that shadow just cracked me up! Good one...

Oh I forgot to ask two things:

What medium do U use for your illos? are they digital or traditional?

and

What's MOCANDO?

:-) Just curious.

Your robo-kitty is wonderful! I love that it has the same posture as a rela cat, but the robotic details are perfect. the claws are espeically cool! I also really like the background treament...scratchy and colorful with that huge scary shadow! Your work is really quite fine, Michael:> I'm glad you're feeling better!

I like the layering of the three characters. I like the cat, but the mouse grabs at my heart. The sketchy cross-hatch is a great texture.

Awesome drawing!!

Poor robot mouse, tho...
oh wait...
poor robot kitty...

should I feel sorry for the robot dog, too?

Wonderful style. I really like the cross-hatch texture. That shadow is so ominous... Yes, makes you feel sorry for the two 'bots who are about to be caught unawares. Way cool.

Love your Robot cat. His posture, big green eyes. Looks like the hunter will become the hunted, woof!

Very clever idea, Michael. The drawing is very solid, and I especially like the textures.

I'm playing that sick as a dog tune THIS week, my friend. Ugh.

But this illustration is cheering me! The texture and feel of this is gorgeous--it's got that sooty, grungy, high-tech post-apocalyptic sense to it. Beautiful work, Michael.

Thank you all for the kinds words and the well wishes for my health. I extend the same back to all of you. The world does seem to be a much smaller place these days. So, Valerie and Roz, I hope you both get to feeling better real soon.

And Genine, the drawing is mostly tradiitional. I started with a pencil sketch on vellum, then added watercolors. And to finish off that part of the process, I used colored pencils. Then on to my nasty scanner. It makes quite the digital mess out of everything. Once in Photoshop, I can't help tweaking the colors a bit. The scanner changes them anyway. And there you have it.

Love the shadow - The raw savagery of nature compared to the frivolity of the machines.....
